Hi, I’m Eliza!
(they/she)
I’m a fiber artist, self-taught tailor, and the founder of Birdhouse Tailoring. I know that for many queer people and folks excluded from generic, “one-size-fits-all” clothing sizing, getting clothes tailored can be an emotionally fraught, uncomfortable, or unsatisfying experience. That’s why, when I left my job in journalism in 2024 to pursue my love of sewing, I knew I wanted to create a space where everyone can feel safe and celebrated.
Birdhouse Tailoring is open to everybody, but I’m particularly passionate about being a part of the process of helping queer people feel more connected to themselves, their bodies, and their identities via the clothes they wear.
When I’m not sewing, you’ll probably find me reading in Prospect Park, knitting a sweater, quilting, crafting with friends, baking elaborate cakes for my loved ones, haunting the local café like an over-caffeinated ghost, or writing the occasional personal essay.
