Birdhouse Policies

  • I am committed to creating a comfortable, gender and size-inclusive environment for all of my clients. With this in mind, here’s what you can expect at a Birdhouse fitting:

    • A cup of tea or water and good conversation

    • A preliminary discussion of what services you’re interested in

    • A highly-personalized clothing try-on with private changing space

    • Collaborative decision-making about alterations and custom design ideas

    • Communication during the fitting informing you of what I’m doing and why

    • Peace of mind that you and your clothes will be treated with respect, kindness, and care

Just bring along the garment you want altered, the shoes you’d normally wear with it (for dresses, skirts, and pants), and yourself!

  • If you need to cancel or reschedule our fitting, please do so at least 24 hours before the appointment.

Cancellations made with less than 24 hours’ notice will be charged a fee equal to 50% of the service sought (except in emergencies, evaluated on a case-by-case basis). There is no fee for rescheduling, as I understand that unexpected things may come up. I ask you only to please keep in mind that I plan my work around scheduled fittings, and to be as thoughtful about rescheduling with me as you would with any other professional.

Please aim to be as on time as possible, as appointments that run over impact my time and the timing of other clients. If you’re running more than 5 minutes late, please communicate your ETA to Eliza. If you’re more than 15 minutes late, a late fee 10% of the total cost of the service will be charged (except in emergencies, evaluated on a case-by-case basis).

  • A 50% deposit will be due at the time of the fitting, and the remainder of the payment will be due upon pickup of the garment(s).

Cash is preferred. Payments through Venmo are totally fine but will come with a service fee of 2% to cover Venmo transaction fees. You can also pay using checks made out to Birdhouse Tailoring LLC.

Tips are very welcome but not expected!

  • Alterations and projects with a turnaround time of under one week from your fitting will be subject to a rush fee. My base rush fee for small projects (such as hems) is $15, and increases depending on the size and complexity of the project. Please reach out with details about your project for more information.

  • You can hire me to consult on a project or to develop an idea with you! My consultation fee is $50/hour (consultations taking under an hour will still be subject to an hour-minimum fee).

My production rate for custom projects varies depending on the complexity of the project and the turnaround time needed. My base production rate is $35/hr for basic machine-sewn projects, and increases for hand-sewn and more involved projects. My fabric sourcing rate is $25/hr.

Please get in touch to find out more.

  • Your satisfaction is deeply important to me—if you’re not happy with the results of an alteration or project, please let me know within a week of pickup and I will make adjustments for free (within reason) and work with you to ensure you are satisfied with the finished product.
